The Project was launched as All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Rodent Control, a crop Science Division (ICAR) initiative during 1977-78 at three centers viz, Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur (Rajasthan); Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab) and University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (Karnataka) with CAZRI, Jodhpur as the Coordinating Unit. During 1982 three more centres at Central Plantations crops Research Institute, Kasaragod (Kerala); JNKVV, Jabalpur (MP) and ICAR Research Complex NEH, Barapani (Meghalaya) were added. The scheme was further strengthened and two centers at ANGRAU (ARS) Maruteru (A.P.) and IISR, Lucknow (U.P) during 1985 and another two at GAU, Junagadh (Gujarat) and Dr YSPU H& F, Solan (H.P.) during 1987 were added and the scheme was then functional with 10 cooperating centres with CAZRI, Jodhpur as Headquarters. During IX Plan the Project was rechristened as All India Network project (AINP) on Rodent Control and the centres at IISR, Lucknow (UP); CPCRI, Kasaragod (Kerala) (1995-96); JNKVV, Jabalpur (M.P.) (2001); GAU, Junagadh (Gujarat) and Dr YSPUH&F, Solan (HP) (2004) were closed and one new center at AAU, Jorhat (Assam) (2001) was started. During XI Plan CIARI, Port Blair (A&N Islands) and CAU (CH&F) Pasighat (Arunachal Pd) and during XII Plan Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur (Kerala) and OUA&T, Bhubneshwar (Odisha) were started. The scheme is now having 09 centres in various agroclimatic zone of country with CAZRI, Jodhpur as Coordinating Unit, as a part of AINP on Vertebrate Pest Management.
