A Kisan Mela and innovation day was organized at CAZRI, Jodhpur on September 24, 2014. The Kisan Mela was inaugurated by honourable Sh. Babu Singh Rathore, M.L.A., Shergadh, Jodhpur. Prof. O.P. Gill, Vice Chancellor, MPAUT, Udaipur were guest of honour of the occasion. The event was presided over by Dr. M.M. Roy, Director, CAZRI Jodhpur. About 1900 farmers from the districts of Western Rajasthan participated in the Kisan Mela. Participation of the farm women was also highly appreciable. Forty stalls were exhibited by CAZRI and other ICAR institutes viz., Project Directorate of rape seed and mustard, Bharatpur, CSWRI AvikaNagar, NRC on Seed spices Ajmer, NGOs, private organizations, various central and state government departments. All the farmers and guests were apprised about different technologies developed by CAZRI. Farmers interacted with scientists in kisan Gosthi. In his address Sh. Babu Singh Rathore applauded the research and extension work done by the institute, he also urged the farmers to continue interaction with the scientists for improving their knowledge and getting maximum benefit from agriculture and livestock production by the adoption of improved technologies. He further emphasised on mechanized agriculture. Prof. O.P. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, MPAUT Udaipur also appreciated the contribution of CAZRI in the development of agriculture, livestock production and natural resource management in arid region. He urged the farmers to diversify the traditional agriculture by adopting modern technologies for obtaining higher income per unit area. In the Presidential address Dr. M.M. Roy, Director CAZRI, Jodhpur highlighted importance of the transfer of technologies at the farmers field and appealed farmer to come forward to adopt improved technologies in the region to derive maximum benefits from the improved technologies. He further emphasized that priority should be given to the development of low cost, durable and efficient practically adoptable technology. Dr. P.C. Pande, Head of Division highlighted the achievement made by CAZRI in sand dune stabilization, development of high yielding varieties of moth, guar, pearl millet, natural resource management, use of non-renewable energy, water harvesting, alternate land use system, livestock management etc. Dr. B.K. Mathur, Principal Scientist highlighted the activities being carried out by KVK, Jodhpur. On the occasion, eight extension folders were released. Twelve innovative farmers were honoured for their outstanding contribution for the development of agriculture and livestock in the region. Vote of thanks was proposed by the Dr. Raj Singh, Principal Scientist, CAZRI, Jodhpur and convener of Kisan Mela and innovation Day.
